Hunger-Striking Medics Urge EU Action on Gaza Blockade

A delegation of doctors, surgeons, paramedics, and activists has spoken out about the “horrors” they witnessed while working in Gaza.

They shared their experiences at the European Parliament earlier this week.

The group of medical professionals, who have been on hunger strike since 31 March in protest of what they describe as a “medical blockade,” were welcomed by MEPs.

Many of the professionals had recently returned from Gaza and described the conditions there as “horrific.”

The hunger strike movement was initiated by French emergency physician Pascal André, who recounted his time in Gaza to the attending MEPs.

Other doctors who had also served in Gaza described the situation in stark terms, stating: “It was hell.”

During the session, MEP Rima Hassan (La France Insoumise, France) stated, “We owe a debt of gratitude to these doctors for their bravery in Gaza and their ongoing advocacy. We need to speed up our efforts, but we cannot do this alone. The Left has taken the lead in the European Parliament, but we also need support from other political groups.”

MEP Carola Rackete (Die Linke, Germany) said:

“Hunger strike has always been a last resort, and in the case of Gaza, it is more than justified. The pleas of Palestinians for medication and food have been ignored.”

MEP Marc Botenga (PTB/PVDA, Belgium) added:

“This issue goes far beyond the failure of European countries. These courageous doctors are showing us an alternative path.”

Oh, brilliant! Just what we need—doctors on a hunger strike to remind our esteemed MEPs that a medical blockade is, you know, kind of a big deal. 🙄 Let’s hope their next meal is some bureaucratic resolution served with a side of urgency! 🍽️

Oh, brilliant! Nothing says “we care” quite like a bunch of doctors going hungry in Brussels while the rest of Europe enjoys its fancy pastries. 🍰 Let’s see if the MEPs can squeeze in a few more meetings between their coffee breaks, shall we? 😏

Oh, brilliant! Nothing says “let’s fix global issues” quite like a group of medics going on a diet while politicians sip their lattes in the EU Parliament. 🍵✨ Who knew that fasting was the new way to get a seat at the discussion table?

Oh, brilliant! Because nothing screams “effective policy change” like a bunch of medics going on a hunger strike—clearly, that’s what the EU needs to jump into action. 🍽️😏 I suppose next they’ll be staging a sit-in at a Michelin-star restaurant!

Oh, brilliant! Nothing says “we care” like a hunger strike in the heart of the EU—because if there’s one thing that gets politicians to act, it’s watching a few medics starve. 🍽️✨ Talk about leading by example, eh?

Oh, brilliant! Nothing quite like a hunger strike to spice up the EU Parliament’s agenda—who needs a decent meal when you can have heartfelt speeches about blockades and medical horrors? 🥳 It’s almost as if they’re trying to win the ‘Best Drama’ award instead of solving actual problems! 🍽️😏

Isn’t it just lovely how our esteemed MEPs can enjoy a buffet of political platitudes while these medics are starving for attention? 🍽️ Bravo to the EU for turning a blind eye—who needs action when you have heartfelt speeches and a side of hypocrisy? 😏

Looks like our brave medics have decided that skipping lunch is the best way to make a point – who needs food when you have the EU’s undivided attention? 🍽️💼 I suppose next they’ll be doing a “stand-up” protest, just to keep it light and breezy! 😂

  9. So, a bunch of medics decided that starving themselves is the best way to get the EU’s attention—brilliant strategy! Next, maybe they’ll take up interpretive dance to really drive home the urgency of the Gaza situation. 🙄💃 #EuropeanLogic
