
SOFIA – A recent nationwide survey conducted by “Alpha Research” at the end of February reveals a growing support among Bulgarians for the nation’s membership in the European Union.
Between September and February, support for EU membership rose by 4%, climbing from 57% to 61%. This is approaching the record high of 64% for this indicator. Meanwhile, negative sentiments have remained significantly lower at 15%, with 25% of respondents undecided.
When asked about Bulgaria’s stance in situations where US and European positions diverge, public opinion is clear. A significant 59% of Bulgarians believe that the country should align with the EU’s common stances to enhance its unity and strength.
Conversely, only 14% of adults in Bulgaria think that the country should follow the US’s position due to its perceived strength, while 27% are unsure of their stance on this issue. The only voter base that slightly favors the US position over the EU’s is that of the “Revival” party, with 39% supporting the US compared to 34% for the EU.
Additionally, Bulgaria shows strong support for countries advocating for a more assertive Europe in global affairs and lasting peace in Ukraine.
Trust in Germany stands at 85%, followed by France at 78%, Italy at 77%, and the UK at 73%. Meanwhile, positive sentiments towards the US and Russia are expressed by 52% and 48% of Bulgarians, respectively. (7.03.2025)
