Government Representative Highlights NGO Financing and Regulation in Slovakia, Upholding EU Law

Bratislava – The financing and regulation of non-governmental organizations (NGOs) in Slovakia has become a pressing topic of discussion. At a press conference on Friday, Simona Zacharová, the Government Plenipotentiary for the Development of Civil Society, emphasized that this dialogue should remain professional and devoid of emotional bias. NGOs in Slovakia have consistently asserted that the proposed mandatory disclosure of all donors would conflict with EU law, as reported by TASR.

Zacharová revealed plans for international trips aimed at gathering insights to enhance legislation focused on NGO transparency. She highlighted her recent visit to Berlin, where she learned about the legal framework established to promote accountability and transparency within NGOs. Additionally, she explored effective strategies for regulating NGO lobbying in a manner that is constructive rather than detrimental.

To develop a robust legal framework addressing transparency in NGO financing and curtailing undesirable practices, Zacharová stressed the necessity of obtaining further expert opinions. She has scheduled working visits to the United States, Hungary, and Israel in the upcoming weeks.

“To adequately tackle transparency and accountability issues within non-profit NGOs in Slovakia, especially in the absence of sufficient information and expertise locally, it is logical for us to seek knowledge from our international partners regarding their experiences and best practices,” Zacharová explained.

She aims to acquire effective methodologies that can help shield the country from harmful external influences while also fostering the work of organizations that serve the public good. She underscored the importance of the third sector as a foundation of democracy, asserting that those dedicated to public service should not face stigma or division, but rather receive systematic solutions to support their efforts.

In May, several NGOs in Slovakia, including Via Iuris, the Stop Corruption Foundation, and Transparency International Slovensko, proposed their own measures to enhance the transparency of their funding and overall credibility. They communicated their recommendations to members of the National Council of the Slovak Republic via letter. These organizations believe the current draft amendment to the NGO law contradicts European Union legislation. (February 14)

Ah, the government’s off on a grand tour to learn how to keep NGOs in line—because, you know, nothing says “transparency” like asking foreigners how to spy on your own citizens! 🤔💼 Next stop, Brussels for a masterclass in avoiding the pesky business of actually listening to the locals!

Looks like we’re off on a European road trip to gather NGO wisdom—because who wouldn’t want to learn about transparency from the Germans? 🚗💨 If only we could just take a page from their handbook instead of a whole library! 📚😏

Seems like our government is taking a leisurely European jaunt to figure out how to regulate NGOs—nothing says “efficient governance” like a foreign holiday for some “insight gathering,” eh? 🚀 If they spent half as much time in Bratislava as they do on these excursions, we might just stumble upon some common sense! 😏

Oh, brilliant! Let’s fly halfway across the world to figure out how to make Slovak NGOs more transparent—because who doesn’t love a bit of bureaucratic tourism? 😂✈️ Meanwhile, back home, we’ll just continue to “uphold” those EU laws while sipping coffee and pretending it’s all sorted… Cheers! 🍵

Oh, sure, because nothing says “transparency” quite like a government official taking international jaunts to figure out how to peek into the wallets of NGOs. 🕵️‍♀️ It’s like trying to learn how to bake a soufflé by watching someone make a lasagna—good luck with that! 😏

Oh great, more international trips to figure out how to keep NGOs in check—because who doesn’t love a good jaunt to Berlin on the taxpayer’s dime? 🤑 Meanwhile, I’m still waiting for the magic wand that makes transparency appear without pesky regulations getting in the way!

Oh, isn’t it delightful when bureaucrats embark on globe-trotting adventures to figure out how to regulate the folks who actually care about society? 😏 Next, they’ll be asking for tips on how to make laws less confusing… in the land of efficiency, no less! Cheers to that! 🍻

  9. Isn’t it adorable how our government thinks a jaunt to Berlin will magically solve all the transparency woes? Maybe they’ll pick up a side of accountability with their schnitzel while they’re at it! 😏🍻

  10. Well, isn’t it just delightful when our government decides to take a guided tour of transparency? 🌍 One can only hope the expertise they gather abroad comes with a complimentary side of common sense. 🍷

Oh, fantastic! Nothing screams “transparency” quite like international trips for a crash course in NGO regulation. I suppose we’ll just ignore the local experts while we’re at it—who needs homegrown wisdom when you’ve got a plane ticket? ✈️😂

  12. Looks like Slovakia’s taking a page out of the “How to Win Friends and Influence People” handbook, eh? International trips to learn about transparency—because who needs local wisdom when you’ve got a world tour on the agenda? 😂🧳

Oh brilliant! Because nothing says “transparency” quite like flying around Europe to learn how to impose rules on others while dodging your own, right? ✈️🤷‍♂️
