Silvio Gonzato, the European Union Ambassador to Albania, has highlighted the significance of a recent pre-financing allocation of 64.5 million euros as a pivotal milestone in Albania’s pursuit of EU membership.
Ambassador Gonzato stated, “The EU is committed to supporting Albania on its journey toward membership.”
“Congratulations to Albania for reaching this important point in its EU membership journey. The Growth Plan not only fosters economic development but also reinforces the rule of law, promotes environmental sustainability, and invests in human capital,” he added.
This funding, part of the EU’s Growth Plan for the Western Balkans, is intended to bolster Albania’s reforms and investments, aiding the country’s advancement towards EU integration.
Albania has received this pre-financing under the EU’s Reform and Growth Mechanism, which is designed to enhance the socio-economic alignment of the region with the EU and facilitate the pathway toward EU membership.
According to a media release from the EU office in Tirana, the 64.5 million euros in pre-financing will aid in executing the Reform Agenda as part of the Reform and Growth Mechanism and fulfill the commitments undertaken by Albania. Of this funding, 30 million euros will be provided as concessional credit to support the state budget and the implementation of domestic reforms. The remaining 34.5 million euros, comprising grants and concessional loans, will be allocated directly to the Western Balkans Investment Framework (WBIF) for infrastructure projects in Albania. / (March 26)
