Germany Unveils New Police Counter-Drone Unit

Germany has allocated over €100 million this year and next for counter-drone technology, with systems including sensors and jammers to disrupt hostile drone signals, and the ability to intercept or shoot them down if necessary.

“It’s an important signal that we are confronting hybrid threats,” Dobrindt said. “We are creating a clear mission to detect, intercept and, yes, also shoot down drones when necessary. We cannot accept that hybrid threats, including drones, become a danger to our security.”

Germany plans to acquire systems from German and Israeli manufacturers, with more purchases expected in the coming months.

This week, Germany’s state interior ministers will decide whether to establish a joint federal-state counter-drone center, involving federal and state police forces and the military to coordinate detection and response.

Berlin’s new unit marks a significant step towards a national counter-drone capability. German security agencies have tracked hundreds of suspicious drone flyovers this year, near barracks, naval facilities and critical infrastructure.

Officials warn that small, commercially available drones are increasingly used in Europe for espionage and hybrid operations. Some European governments suspect Russia, but proof is lacking.

Airports across Europe have been forced to close due to drones. Last month, the U.K., France and Germany assisted Belgium in countering drone incursions around sensitive areas.

Many countries are working to address drone threats safely and legally, as shooting them down could endanger people on the ground.

Oh great, just what we needed—more tech to shoot down pesky drones. Because nothing says “we’re in control” like spending millions to outsmart a toy that costs less than my morning espresso. ☕️💸

So, after splashing €100 million on some shiny new toys to play with, I suppose Germany’s just a hop, skip, and a drone-shoot away from world peace, eh? 🇩🇪💰

Oh joy, just what we needed—€100 million to shoot down drones instead of, you know, fixing the potholes or something. Brilliant strategy, lads! 🚁💸

Looks like Germany’s finally decided to play drone tag with a budget that could fund a small country’s coffee habit ☕. I mean, who needs a peaceful sky when you can shoot down pesky flying toys? 😂

Looks like Germany’s finally invested in something other than beer and cars—who knew drones were the new “threat to democracy”? 🚁💰 I guess if you can’t beat ’em, shoot ’em down! 😂

  9. Looks like Germany’s finally stepping up its game against those pesky drones—because nothing says “we’re serious about security” like a €100 million drone-hunting squad! 🚁💸 Just what we needed, more toys for the boys!

Just what we needed, a €100 million drone-hunting squad—because clearly, dodging actual problems is so last season. 🤷‍♂️ It’s like bringing a bazooka to a pillow fight, isn’t it?

Oh great, just what we needed—more gadgets to blow things up in the sky! I guess when it comes to dealing with pesky drones, the Germans are taking the “shoot first, ask questions later” approach to a whole new level. 🤷‍♂️💰

Oh, brilliant! Just what we need—more gadgets to shoot down pesky drones while the real security threats are probably sipping coffee at the next table. Must be nice to have €100 million to play with; I guess those hybrid threats don’t pay for themselves! 😂💸

Looks like Germany’s finally figured out that drones aren’t just for dodging traffic anymore—€100 million for a counter-drone fiesta, I suppose they think they’re auditioning for a new season of “Germany’s Got Defense!” 😏🚁

  19. Oh, brilliant! Nothing says “We mean business” quite like a €100 million investment in drones that can shoot down other drones. Next up, maybe we’ll get a drone that delivers our schnitzels while we keep an eye on the skies. 🍻🚁

Oh great, just what we needed – a €100 million upgrade in our “shoot first, ask questions later” strategy. Can’t wait for the day they start charging us extra for the airspace too! 😂💶
