Gaza: EU to Reevaluate Its Association Agreement with Israel

Brussels – Kaja Kallas, the head of European diplomacy, announced on Tuesday that the European Commission will initiate a review of the association agreement between the EU and Israel. This review will assess whether Israel is upholding human rights and democratic principles as stipulated in Article 2 of the agreement.

At the conclusion of a meeting of foreign ministers in Brussels, Kallas stated, “There is a strong majority in favor of reviewing Article 2 (regarding human rights) of our association agreement with Israel. We will proceed with this review.”

Seventeen countries, including France and the Netherlands, have expressed their support for this review, as highlighted by French Foreign Minister Jean-Noël Barrot in a statement to the National Assembly in Paris.

Article 2 emphasizes that the relationship between the parties and all terms of the agreement are grounded in respect for human rights. (May 20, 2025)

Oh, splendid! Just what we needed—another round of bureaucratic waffle to remind us that human rights are like fine wine: great in theory but often forgotten in practice. 🍷 Let’s see if this review yields more than just a polite nod and a shrug from the powers that be! 😏

Oh brilliant, just what we need—another committee meeting to discuss human rights while the clock ticks down on actual change. Perhaps they’ll serve tea and biscuits while they’re at it, très important work, right? 🍵😂

Oh, fantastic, just what we needed—a bureaucratic deep dive into Article 2! Because nothing says “we care about human rights” quite like a good old-fashioned EU review, eh? 🙄🇪🇺

Typical EU move, isn’t it? 🤦‍♂️ Maybe they’ll finally find the courage to send a strongly worded letter—because that really solves everything, right? 😂✉️

Oh, splendid, just what we needed—a bureaucratic deep dive into Article 2! Because nothing says “we care” like a review that’ll take longer than a French lunch to figure out if human rights are indeed, you know, important. 🍷🕵️‍♂️

Oh, lovely, more paperwork to shuffle around while sipping lattes in Brussels. I can already hear the sound of human rights being discussed over croissants—let’s hope this review doesn’t take longer than a French holiday! 🥐💼

Isn’t it charming how we always wait until the last drop of ink dries on our agreements before deciding to give them a good ol’ reevaluation? 🤔 Just like a fine wine, I suppose—best enjoyed after a bit of souring! 🍷

Oh, marvelous! Nothing says “we care” quite like a good old-fashioned review of human rights—just what the world needs, more paperwork! 🚩 Let’s hope they find time in between their coffee breaks and holiday getaways to actually do something about it. 😏

Oh, splendid! Just when you thought bureaucratic red tape couldn’t get any thicker, here comes the EU to sprinkle some more ‘human rights’ fairy dust on their existing deal. Maybe next they’ll evaluate the color of their coffee as well—very important stuff! ☕😏

So, the EU is suddenly clutching its pearls over human rights in Israel? Must be a slow news day in Brussels! 😂 Typical, innit? Just when you thought they ran out of things to discuss over stale coffee and biscuits! ☕️🥐

Oh lovely, another EU meeting where they’ll “reevaluate” human rights, as if that has ever solved anything. Meanwhile, back at home, I’ve found my lost socks—maybe we should start a review on those too! 😂🧦

Oh, brilliant move, EU! 🤦‍♂️ Nothing screams “we care about human rights” louder than a leisurely review while sipping espresso in Brussels. Can’t wait to see how this ‘thorough investigation’ goes—should be a real page-turner! 📖🍷
