Pope Francis’ Funeral Scheduled for Saturday in St. Peter’s Square
Pope Francis’ funeral will be held on Saturday at 10 a.m. Central European Time, the Vatican announced in an official statement released Tuesday.
The ceremony, taking place at St. Peter’s Square, is expected to draw a significant number of global leaders and dignitaries. Among those confirmed to attend are U.S. President Donald Trump and French President Emmanuel Macron. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy is also reportedly considering attending the service.
Pope Francis passed away on Easter Monday after battling illness for several months. Vatican doctors confirmed that the cause of death was a stroke.
In keeping with tradition, a conclave to elect the next pope will be held 15 to 20 days following his death.
