Hamas announced on Friday the names of four Israeli soldiers, all women, who had been held captive since October 7, 2023. The hostages were identified as Karina Arif, Daniel Gilboa, Naama Levy, and Liri Elbag.
According to a report by Reuters, Israel agreed to release 200 Palestinian prisoners in exchange for the hostages.
This marks the second prisoner exchange carried out under a cease-fire agreement that has temporarily paused the 15-month-long conflict. As part of the deal, Hamas will release a total of 33 hostages, while Israel will free hundreds of Palestinian prisoners. Hamas is estimated to still be holding about 100 Israelis in captivity.
The Israeli military announced that the freed hostages would first receive medical evaluations upon their return from Gaza. They will then be transferred to hospitals for further care and eventually reunited with their families.
