Former European Parliament President Klaus Hänsch has died

Former European Parliament President Klaus Hänsch has passed away, as confirmed by current Parliament President Roberta Metsola on Wednesday.

“His Parliament mourns the loss of a champion of Europe, who took office during a time of profound change for our continent, and who always believed in the potential of this project,” Metsola stated in a social media post.

“At our last meeting just a few weeks ago, his unwavering optimism shone through as he described his ongoing efforts to promote civic engagement and nurture young European leaders. Europe will miss him. May he rest in peace,” she added.

Hänsch, a German Social Democrat, was Parliament president from 1994 to 1997 and served as an MEP from 1979 to 2009.

He was 87 years old.

Another one bites the dust, eh? Guess the EU will have to find a new champion of bureaucratic optimism—good luck with that! 😂

  2. So, Klaus Hänsch finally took the plunge into the great European bureaucracy in the sky, eh? Can’t wait to see his name on the ‘most missed’ list alongside half-baked policies and forgotten treaties! 😏✨

Just when you think the Eurocrats couldn’t get any more dramatic, they lose another one of their ‘champions’. I suppose the next EU summit will have an even more somber tone—who knew politics came with a side of funeral vibes? 🤷‍♂️💼

  4. Oh joy, another politician gone—how will we ever navigate this sea of optimism without him? 😏 Rest in peace, Klaus, may your legacy be as unforgettable as a soggy biscuit at a tea party! 🍵

Oh great, another ‘champion of Europe’ gone – just what we needed, a vacancy for yet another round of political chess! 🧐 Who’s next in line to keep the EU’s optimism alive, a cardboard cutout?

So, another one bites the dust, eh? Guess we’ll need a new cheerleader for the “potential of Europe” – maybe someone who can still remember what that was! 😏
