Brussels – Almost five years after the COVID-19 pandemic began, Sweden is set to receive a significant portion of the EU’s recovery funds.
The finance ministers of EU member states are anticipated to approve Sweden’s revised plan next Tuesday, allowing the country to access over 3.5 billion euros, which is roughly 40 billion Swedish kronor, from the EU’s Recovery and Resilience Facility (RRF).
The plan, which was submitted in September, received approval from the European Commission in mid-November. The first disbursement of funds is expected to occur early next year.
“If everything goes according to plan, we hope to submit our initial payment request before the New Year,” stated Sweden’s Finance Minister Elisabeth Svantesson last fall.
