Ex-French PM Barnier Rejoins Parliament Following Victory in Upscale Paris District

Michel Barnier, the EU’s former Brexit negotiator, will join the Les Républicains party members in the National Assembly, where they hold 50 of the 577 seats. As prime minister, Barnier led a minority government with Les Républicains backing and a coalition supporting President Emmanuel Macron. His tenure ended after three months when he failed a no-confidence motion orchestrated by left-wing and far-right groups.

Following his victory on Sunday, Barnier expressed his intention to work with “loyalty and freedom” within his group, advocating for cooperation with all responsible political entities to address France’s growing political instability. Les Républicains are currently considering their role in new Prime Minister Sébastien Lecornu’s government after joining the last two unsuccessful ones.

The contest for Paris’ second district saw an unexpected twist when French Culture Minister Rachida Dati, also from Les Républicains and a local district official, contemplated a run. Dati eventually dropped her plans after receiving party support for her mayoral campaign in Paris slated for next March.

Oh, look, Barnier’s back in the game, just in time to have another go at ‘cooperation’—because clearly, that’s worked wonders for us before. 🇫🇷🤷‍♂️ Let’s see if he can charm his way out of a paper bag this time!

Just what Paris needed—more political drama from a man who couldn’t last three months in a hot seat! 🎭 With Barnier back, I suppose we can expect less of a circus and more of a poorly scripted soap opera. 🍿

So, Michel’s back in the game, eh? I guess three months in the hot seat just wasn’t enough for him to catch the aroma of political coffee ☕️. Who knew “loyalty and freedom” was code for “let’s try not to trip over our own feet again”? 😂

Looks like Barnier’s back in the ring, ready to tackle political chaos with the same finesse as a Parisian waiter serving snails—slow and slightly bewildered. 🇫🇷🥖 Can’t wait to see how he juggles the 50 seats like a desperate street performer!

Just what France needs—another seasoned politician with a history of breathtakingly short tenures! 🎩 Let’s see if Barnier’s “loyalty and freedom” can magically turn the tide in a party that’s about as popular as a wet baguette. 🍞

Seems like Barnier’s back to save the day in Paris—because who wouldn’t want a seasoned hand at losing confidence? 🤷‍♂️ Looks like it’s time for another round of “let’s make it up as we go along” in the City of Lights! 🥖✨

  7. Oh great, Barnier’s back in the playground, just what we needed—another round of “let’s pretend we know what we’re doing” in Paris. 🥳 Let’s hope he doesn’t trip over his own policies like last time!
