European Leaders to Convene in Paris for Ukraine Summit

Paris (Eurotoday) – European leaders are set to convene in Paris for an emergency summit on the war in Ukraine as Trump moves ahead with peace talks without involving Europe.

Is Trump excluding Europe from Ukraine peace talks? How does Zelenskyy justify the need for a European army?

According to media reports, while French President Emmanuel Macron and his representatives have not officially confirmed the meeting, European officials have suggested that the gathering is likely moving forward. British Prime Minister Keir Starmer is also expected to attend the summit in Paris.

Speaking during a panel at the Munich Security Conference, Polish Foreign Minister Radoslaw Sikorski indicated that the meeting is likely to take place, with final details expected to be settled on Sunday.

Is Trump excluding Europe from Ukraine peace talks?

The summit comes as US Special Envoy to Ukraine, Keith Kellogg, asserted that Europe will not be directly involved in upcoming peace talks between Washington, Moscow, and Kyiv. However, he noted that Europe’s opinion will still be taken into consideration in peace discussions.

I come from the school of realism, I think that’s not going to happen,

said Kellogg when asked directly about Europe’s role in a potential peace deal.

To my European friends, I would say, enter the discussion not with complaints about whether or not you’re at the table, but by offering concrete proposals and ideas, particularly on defence spending,

he added.

How does Zelenskyy justify the need for a European army?

In response, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy called for the establishment of a European Army—“The Armed Forces of Europe”—as tensions arise between Washington and Brussels.

“I really believe the time has come – the armed forces of Europe must be created”

Zelenskyy stated during the Munich Security Conference.

  1. Oh, splendid! Nothing like a good ol’ Paris summit while the real talks are being left to a certain orange fella across the pond. Talk about being invited to a party after the cake’s already been eaten! 🇫🇷🎂
