European Commission Voices Concerns Over Biometric System for Travelers

BRUSSELS (ANP) – “There has been no security breach. The entry and exit system is not yet operational, which means data collection has not commenced,” stated a spokesperson.

The European Public Prosecutor’s Office has confirmed that it is conducting a comprehensive investigation into the French IT firm Atos after a complaint was filed. The Financial Times reported that the investigation pertains to staff in Russia who were involved in acquiring software in 2021 for the EU’s Entry/Exit System (EES), designed to automatically register travelers from non-EU countries.

The system was initially due to launch last November, but the European Commission opted to delay its rollout because several countries, including the Netherlands, were unprepared. A new launch date has yet to be announced.

The EU Agency for the Management of Large-Scale IT Systems (EU-LISA) is responsible for ensuring all security standards are met, according to the European Commission spokesperson. The agency must also confirm that “security risks are mitigated before the system can become operational.”

Oh, splendid! A biometric system that’s about as operational as my cousin’s startup—still waiting for that launch date, eh? 😂 Maybe they should just stick to stamp collections; at least those don’t require an investigation!

  2. Oh, brilliant! Who knew that a biometric system for travelers could be so complicated? It’s like trying to teach a cat to fetch—never going to happen, but hey, at least there’s a fancy investigation to keep us entertained! 😂🇪🇺

Isn’t it delightful when a system designed to streamline travel ends up being as efficient as a snail on holiday? 😏 But hey, at least we can say we’re thorough about making sure no data is collected before we trip over our own feet! 🐌✈️
