European Commission aims to prohibit Russian LNG imports by 2027

“We aim to expedite the cessation of Russian liquefied natural gas (LNG) by January 1, 2027,” Kallas stated on social media after unveiling new sanctions against Russia. “Energy sales continue to fund Russia’s war,” she emphasized.

The EU has been determined to ban Russian gas imports for some time. Currently, member states and the European Parliament are reviewing a draft regulation that would prohibit imports starting January 1, 2028. If approved, the LNG ban would take effect a year earlier.

Since the onset of the Ukraine invasion in February 2022, the flow of Russian gas into the EU has significantly declined. In 2021, Russia represented 45 percent of gas imports, whereas last year, that figure dropped to just 19 percent. The Zeebrugge port remains a crucial entry point for LNG, primarily for transit to other nations. France, the Netherlands, Portugal, and Spain continue to import Russian LNG, while Hungary, Slovakia, and Greece receive gas via the TurkStream pipeline.

  1. Looks like the EU is really putting their foot down on Russian LNG imports—2027, eh? Just in time for the next Eurovision, I suppose! 🎤💨

  2. Looks like the EU is finally getting its act together—better late than never, right? 🥳 By 2027, we’ll be sipping espresso while watching Russia’s gas empire crumble, assuming they don’t find a way to smuggle it in through a backdoor or two! 🍷💨

Looks like the EU’s got a plan to kick Russian LNG to the curb by 2027—because nothing says “we mean business” like giving yourself a deadline and then adding a year for good measure! 😂 #JustInTimeForTea

Oh, splendid! Nothing like a good ol’ deadline to get the energy sector buzzing—2027, eh? Might as well throw a party for the gas companies while we’re at it! 🎉💨

  5. Looks like the Commission’s timeline is as ambitious as a Eurocrat trying to book a one-way ticket to Mars. By 2027, we’ll be sipping our lattes with no Russian gas – because who needs warmth when you’ve got lofty ideals? 😂

So, we’re cutting off Russian LNG by 2027, eh? Brilliant strategy—nothing like a five-year plan to show we mean business! 💼💨

So, by 2027 we’re finally kicking the Russian gas habit, eh? I guess better late than never—who knew it would take a war to remind us that energy independence doesn’t just mean a fancy solar panel on the roof? 😏💡

So, the EU’s got a 2027 plan to ditch Russian LNG, eh? Brilliant! Because who wouldn’t want to stop funding a war by buying gas from the same bloke who’s been throwing tantrums at the border? 😂💨
