Europe Ready to Police Hormuz — But Only if Fighting Stops

Days after the U.S. president urged NATO nations to “lead” in sending warships to the Strait amid Iran’s retaliatory blockade causing a global energy crisis, Trump reinforced his stance Wednesday night, telling POLITICO: “They gotta get guts and go in.”

A meeting summary from the U.K. stated that participants agreed to heighten international pressure, “including through the UN, to convey clear and coordinated messages to Iran allowing free transit through the Strait of Hormuz and rejecting any imposition of tolls on vessels passing through.”

It included plans to examine “coordinated economic and political measures, such as sanctions” to intensify pressure on Tehran if the Strait remains blocked.

Discussions also included “arrangements to support greater market and operational confidence,” with emphasis on enhancing information sharing with shipping operators and industry bodies.

However, the 90-minute call highlighted reluctance among those on Trump’s wishlist to use military force in the Strait amidst ongoing conflict.

British Foreign Secretary Yvette Cooper, leading the call, assured that military planners would convene “to consider how we marshal our collective defensive military capabilities,” including de-mining missions. She clarified this would only be considered “once the conflict eases.” Post-conflict military planning hasn’t commenced yet, but an initial meeting is scheduled for Tuesday.

Looks like Europe’s ready to jump into action—just as soon as someone can find the “Pause” button on this whole conflict thing. 😏 Nothing screams “we mean business” quite like a meeting about meetings! 🥳

Looks like Europe’s ready to jump into the Hormuz pool, but only after the waters calm down a bit—perfect timing for a tea break, eh? ☕️😏

Looks like Europe is ready to step in — but only after they finish their tea and the fighting takes a holiday. Typical, innit? ☕️🛳️

Oh sure, let’s send warships once the fighting stops—because nothing says ‘strong leadership’ like a bunch of diplomats sipping tea while the world holds its breath. 🤦‍♂️

Seems like we’re all set to play naval chess in Hormuz, but only if the kids stop throwing tantrums first. Classic European diplomacy, where action is just a suggestion and conflict resolution means waiting for a tea break. 😂🍵

Looks like Europe’s got its priorities straight: we’re only ready to play police when the neighborhood stops throwing punches. Classic, innit? 😂

So, we’re ready to police Hormuz, but only if it’s all tea and crumpets first? Classic Europe – always fashionably late to the brawl! 😂🍵

Looks like Europe’s gearing up to play bouncers at Hormuz, but only if the rowdies decide to calm down first. Classic! 🤷‍♂️ “We’ll send the warships, but only after tea, darling!” 🍵

  9. Seems like Europe is ready to flex its muscles in Hormuz—just as soon as the fighting decides to take a little holiday. Classic EU style: action, but only after a nice cup of tea and a chat! 🍵😏

  10. Looks like we’re all set to flex our naval muscles in Hormuz, but only after a nice cup of tea and maybe a good old-fashioned chat with Iran—because who wouldn’t want to negotiate with a side of military might? 😂
