The European Commission is providing an additional €40 million in humanitarian aid to support Ukrainians facing a fourth winter amidst Russia’s war of aggression. This new assistance will enhance the country’s winter preparedness and safeguard civilians against harsh cold conditions.
EU humanitarian aid partners will supply shelter materials, repair damaged homes and centers for displaced people, and improve access to water, sanitation, and heating. The funding will also cover cash assistance, solid fuels, heating appliances, insulation, and emergency heating points. Special focus will be on vulnerable groups, including older people, children, individuals with disabilities, and displaced families in collective sites.
Through its Civil Protection Mechanism, the EU has delivered over 156,000 tonnes of relief supplies. Responding to the extensive damage to Ukraine’s energy infrastructure, this support encompasses energy equipment such as 9,342 power generators, 6,917 transformers, and millions of energy-saving LED bulbs. Additionally, the EU and its Member States have mobilized over €4.2 billion in humanitarian aid for Ukraine and neighboring countries. The EU has also coordinated the medical evacuation of more than 4,500 patients from Ukraine to hospitals in 22 European countries for treatment.
