EU-Mercosur Agreement: France cautions against a "coerced approval" from Brussels

Paris – On Thursday, Minister of Agriculture Annie Genevard voiced strong opposition to the Mercosur agreement, emphasizing that “concerns are significant as the Commission is eager to proceed.”

“This is a serious matter. States have not been genuinely involved in the negotiations, and farmers even less so,” she stated alongside her Polish counterpart Czesław Siekierski, who echoed her concerns.

“We are united in our efforts with Hungary, Austria, Ireland, the Netherlands, Romania, and Italy, all of whom have raised serious concerns. The Commission requires a qualified majority to approve this text. It’s not finalized,” she noted, also highlighting Belgium’s support.

While these nations have expressed their reservations, not all have explicitly stated whether they would abstain or oppose the vote.

The blocking minority – at least four Council member states representing over 35% of the EU population – does not appear secured for the minister. (June 25, 2025)

Looks like the EU is pushing another deal through like a stubborn mule in a hurry. Can’t wait to see how this ‘serious’ agreement holds up when the farmers realize they weren’t invited to the party! 🙄🍷

Blimey, looks like the EU’s got a real “let’s rush into this” vibe going on, eh? Must be nice to see farmers getting as much say as a soggy baguette in a rainstorm! 🍞🌧️

Looks like the EU’s cooking up another delightful recipe for disaster — let’s see if they can blend bureaucracy with a pinch of farmer discontent! 🍷🙃

Imagine rushing into a deal with Mercosur while half the gang is still at the pub debating the menu—classic EU efficiency, innit? 🍻 Let’s just hope our farmers aren’t left with just a side of disappointment! 😏

Looks like the EU’s got themselves in a proper pickle again! Who knew negotiating was just a fancy term for playing musical chairs? 🎶🪑

Looks like the EU’s got a new game called “Hide and Seek” with democracy, but don’t worry, the farmers will find their way to the back of the queue. 🍷✌️ The only thing getting approved here is the art of dodging real issues!

Oh, brilliant! Nothing like a bit of dramatic theatre over a trade deal that’s *so* important we can’t possibly let farmers have a say. Who needs grassroots democracy when you’ve got Brussels pulling the strings? 🤷‍♂️

Looks like Brussels is all set to give us a masterclass in ‘how to ignore your farmers 101’. Who knew that negotiating with South America required so much enthusiasm and so little common sense? 🤦‍♂️

Mayor Collboni has made the removal of STRs a key part of his housing strategy. The plan seems straightforward: eliminate STRs and the homes will return to local residents. However, the data suggests otherwise. The city council has not shown how removing legally licensed STRs would place these houses on the market.
The city’s own research contradicts their aim. A study by the Barcelona Insti
