EU, India Reach Agreement on Trade Deal

“This would be a very good story for our agriculture sector. I believe we are aiming to start a completely new chapter in the field of cooperation in the automotive sector, in machinery,” said EU trade chief Maroš Šefčovič to POLITICO.

On trade in services, Šefčovič stated that sectors such as telecoms, maritime, and financial services were expected to benefit.

“This is again something where also India is making groundbreaking steps to new levels of cooperation, because we are the first one with whom they’re ready to consider this cooperation,” he noted.

The conclusion to the talks occurred during the EU leadership’s three-day visit to India for a summit aimed at boosting trade and defense ties between New Delhi and Brussels.

Having been on and off since 2007, the pact comes at an ideal moment as New Delhi and Brussels contend with steep tariffs from the U.S. and cheap goods from China.

Right then, after years of chit-chat, we’ve finally decided to take our trade relationship with India off the back burner—who knew it would take a summit and a few cups of chai to get here? ☕️💼 Guess we’ll be trading more than just “how’s the weather” now, eh? 😂

  2. Oh, brilliant! Just what we need—more agreements to help us dodge tariffs while pretending we’re all friends. Who knew trade deals could be the new European pastime? 😂

  3. Oh sure, because nothing screams “groundbreaking cooperation” like a trade deal that’s been in and out of the oven since 2007. 🍞🙄 Maybe we should just slap a “Best Before” date on it!
