EU Engages Meta, TikTok to Address Ceuta Migrant Crisis

A contact point will be set up for platforms, fact-checkers, and the Commission to swiftly flag content for review and potential removal, driven by concerns over disinformation affecting crossings on August 15, reported by Maldita.es. Representatives from Maldita.es and the European Fact-Checking Standards Network attended a recent meeting.

The Commission runs a rapid response system under its disinformation code of conduct, often used during elections. The new mechanism for Ceuta aims to bring stakeholders closer, as mentioned by two sources.

Another meeting is scheduled for later this week, as confirmed by two of the sources.

Meta and TikTok stated they are actively monitoring the situation according to their policies, with teams dedicated to real-time content monitoring and response.

The crisis has sparked division among EU countries and revived debates on illegal migration in Europe. Italy has criticized Spain’s left-wing government and its migration policies, imposing border controls on travelers from Spain.

Former EU commissioner Thierry Breton, influential in EU online content rules, suggested on Monday in an interview with Italian newspaper La Stampa that the EU should investigate disinformation related to the Ceuta crisis.

Oh, brilliant! Because nothing screams “solution” like a bunch of tech giants playing whack-a-mole with online posts while actual migrants are left in the lurch. 🤷‍♂️ Just what we need—more meetings and code of conducts! 🚀

Oh great, just what we needed – a bunch of tech moguls deciding who gets to cross borders while sipping espresso and scrolling through TikTok! 🙄 Can’t wait for the ‘swift action’ – I’m sure those meetings will solve everything, right? 🍷

  3. Oh great, just what we needed—more bureaucratic meetings and a contact point for flagging content. Because nothing says “we’re on top of this crisis” quite like a bunch of officials chatting about social media posts while the boats keep coming in. 🙄🇪🇺

  4. Oh great, just what we needed – the EU inviting social media giants to join the circus of the Ceuta migrant crisis! Because nothing screams ‘solution’ like a bunch of fact-checkers and TikTok dancing around the issue. 🥳

Oh great, because nothing says “we care” like a bunch of bureaucrats and tech giants sitting around a table, while the migrants just wait for their TikTok moment. 😏 #EfficiencyAtItsBest

Oh, how charming! The EU’s latest strategy of engaging social media giants for a crisis that’s as old as the Colosseum—it’s like asking a fox to guard a henhouse. 🐦💼

Another brilliant move by the EU – because what we really need in a migrant crisis is a fact-checking hotline! 😂 Maybe next they’ll set up a TikTok dance challenge to raise awareness.

Looks like the EU is finally getting around to addressing the migrant crisis—not a moment too soon, eh? 🤔 Just what we need, more meetings and committees, like that’s ever solved anything!

Isn’t it charming how the EU thinks that chatting with Meta and TikTok will magically solve the Ceuta crisis? Maybe next they’ll hire a magician for the next meeting! 🪄🤣

Jumping through hoops with Meta and TikTok to tackle the migrant crisis? Brilliant! Can’t wait to see how a bunch of tech companies solve a diplomatic mess while sipping espressos in their ivory towers. 🍵✨

Looks like the EU’s new strategy is to treat social media like the schoolyard bully—just flag it and hope it goes away! 😂 Maybe we should just hand out a few more “fact-check” stickers and call it a day, eh?

What defines a “prophet” in the context of pastoral care?
It’s not the Church’s recognized and canonized figure. While the term originates from the Bible, it holds a meaning closer to early Christianity’s monuments. Here, a prophet isn’t someone who predicts the future but embodies a creative spirit, seeking constant communion wi
