EU Commission to Suspend Support for Israeli Entrepreneurs

The EU Commission has proposed a partial suspension of Israel’s participation in the Horizon Europe program, which funds research initiatives. This specifically pertains to the European Innovation Council (EIC) Accelerator program, designed to assist new and smaller enterprises in promoting innovative technologies.

The proposal follows calls from several EU member states for increased pressure on Israel due to the ongoing situation in Gaza, drawing criticism from the Israeli government. Israel’s foreign ministry labeled the commission’s recommendation as misguided and regrettable, asserting that it could inadvertently strengthen Hamas amidst ongoing conflict.

In a statement on X, the ministry emphasized that such a decision could hinder efforts for a ceasefire and hostage negotiations and affirmed Israel’s commitment to oppose the proposal among EU nations.

On Monday, it was indicated that EU commissioners would discuss this proposal, and they have reached a consensus to recommend a partial suspension for Israel from Horizon. If approved by member states, this would mark the EU’s first concrete sanctions against Israel related to the Gaza conflict.

Euractiv, a media outlet focused on European politics, reported that an unnamed EU official indicated this proposal stems from a lack of significant improvement in the humanitarian conditions in Gaza, where food shortages are prevalent, despite Israel’s commitments to facilitate increased humanitarian aid.

Looks like the EU’s found a new hobby: punishing innovation instead of promoting it. 🥳 Nothing says “support for creativity” like sidelining entrepreneurs in a time of crisis!

Oh, brilliant move, EU! Because who needs innovation and collaboration when you can just throw tantrums like a kid denied their candy? 🍬🙄

Oh brilliant, just what we need—because nothing says “innovation” like punishing the very startups that might actually, I don’t know, help sort out the mess. 🙄

Looks like the EU’s taking a page from the playbook of ‘tough love’—because who wouldn’t want their innovation funded by a bunch of bureaucrats who can’t even agree on what to have for lunch? 🙄💼

Looks like the EU’s decided to play a game of ‘let’s see how to annoy Israel without actually helping Gaza.’ Brilliant strategy, lads! 🙄💼

Oh, brilliant move, EU! Nothing says “we care about innovation” quite like punishing those who actually try to invent things while the rest of us are busy debating about who gets to keep the last croissant. 🥐

Looks like the EU’s got a new hobby—playing political ping-pong with Israel’s startups. What a brilliant strategy to spark innovation—by pulling the funding rug from under their feet! 😂

Just what we need, a genius move to cut off support for innovative minds in Israel while hoping for peace—because that always works, right? 🤦‍♂️ Can’t wait to see how that turns out; maybe they’ll invent a new way to ignore reality!

Looks like the EU’s new strategy is to teach Israel a lesson about innovation – because nothing says “let’s solve problems” like giving the cold shoulder to entrepreneurs. Bravo, that’ll totally fix the situation! 😏

  10. Typical EU move, isn’t it? Just when you think they might invest in innovation, they pull the rug out instead—can’t wait to see how this one’s spun at the next summit! 😂💼

Seems like the EU’s idea of innovation is just as creative as their diplomatic strategy—let’s penalize the techies while the real issues simmer away like a forgotten pot of spaghetti. 🍝💼

  12. Oh, brilliant move, EU! Because nothing says “let’s foster innovation” quite like punishing entrepreneurs for a political mess. 🙄💼

Typical EU, always finding ways to turn innovation into a political chess piece. 🎭 Guess they think stifling creativity is the way to foster peace—brilliant strategy, lads!

Just what we needed, right? A bit of bureaucratic finger-wagging to remind us that innovation is best served cold, preferably in a Gaza café. 🍵

So, the EU thinks pulling the rug out from under Israeli entrepreneurs is the way to solve a geopolitical mess? Brilliant strategy there, lads! 🍷💼

Isn’t it charming how the EU thinks a little suspension will fix the world’s problems? 🤔 Maybe next they’ll just stop sending emails to make everyone get along! 😂
