The upcoming 2025 elections hold significant importance, occurring shortly after Albania initiated negotiations for group-chapter 1, which concentrates on the rule of law and democratic processes.
In this context, the European Union has backed the formation of the NGO Group for Election Monitoring, which aims to ensure elections are inclusive, transparent, and trustworthy.
As stated by the EU delegation in Tirana, this initiative is part of a broader strategy to reinforce democratic institutions and promote electoral processes in Albania that are inclusive and reliable.
“Civil society plays a crucial role in building trust through monitoring, facilitating dialogue, and engaging citizens, particularly first-time voters and marginalized groups,” remarked EU ambassador in Tirana, Silvio Gonzato, during the event.
“It is encouraging to see over 200 activists already involved. A vibrant and engaged civil society is essential for Albania’s EU membership journey, ensuring that this process is inclusive and that reforms are enduring,” Gonzato highlighted.
“We remain committed to supporting Albanian civil society organizations that advocate for democratic values and human rights,” concluded Silvio Gonzato, the EU ambassador in Albania. (April 28)
