Sarajevo – On Wednesday, both the United States and the European Union expressed strong disapproval of the Bosnian Serbs’ plans to obstruct the operations of the central institutions in Bosnia and Herzegovina. This action comes in response to the trial of their political leader, Milorad Dodik, who is facing charges for defying the authority of the International High Representative responsible for upholding the peace agreement.
In a session that extended into the early hours of Wednesday, the Parliament of the Republika Srpska (RS) passed several resolutions, including a directive for their representatives in central institutions to refrain from participating in any decision-making concerning the nation’s efforts to enhance ties with the European Union. They described the proceedings against Dodik as a “political trial.”
The embassies of the United States, the EU, France, Germany, Italy, and the United Kingdom issued a joint statement condemning the RS Parliament’s conclusions, stating that these actions pose a significant threat to the constitutional order of the country. (December 25, 2024)
