Elon Musk has criticized the U.K. government, declaring, “The people of Britain have had enough of a tyrannical police state.” His remarks come amid escalating tensions between the tech mogul and British authorities.
A day prior, Musk reposted a graph depicting Prime Minister Keir Starmer’s declining approval ratings and commented, “The voice of the people is a great antidote.” The outspoken entrepreneur, who once served in an advisory role under Donald Trump, appears to have taken aim at Starmer’s leadership and governance.
Musk’s public feud with the British government has been brewing since the summer, when he weighed in on the tragic killing of three schoolgirls in Southport. He used the incident to critique U.K. policing, propagate debunked claims about the government’s response, and accuse Starmer of overseeing a “two-tier” justice system that allegedly discriminates against white citizens.
In a marked escalation, Musk warned that “civil war is inevitable” in the U.K., a claim that drew formal criticism from Downing Street. His stance also reportedly led to his exclusion from a major British investment summit in the fall, despite later diplomatic efforts by ministers to mend fences with the billionaire.
Over the weekend, Musk’s commentary extended beyond his critiques of Starmer. He questioned the imprisonment of far-right activist Tommy Robinson, who was jailed in the summer after admitting to breaching a court order related to his spreading of defamatory claims about a Syrian refugee schoolboy. Musk not only voiced support but also shared Robinson’s controversial documentary with his over 200 million followers on X, the social media platform Musk owns.
The billionaire’s remarks have heightened tensions with the British government, while sparking debate over his role in shaping public discourse on global politics.
