Ein Jahr Merz: Die Furcht vor dem Kieselstein

In two days, Friedrich Merz will mark one year in office, with a poor track record. Domestically, the black-red coalition is continuously at odds over taxes and subsidies, dragging down its poll numbers. Gordon Repinski examines the chancellor’s recent appearance on ARD with Caren Miosga, his attempt to refocus on governance, and the challenging trust dynamics with SPD leaders Bärbel Bas and Lars Klingbeil.

Internationally, Merz’s remarks at a school risk causing significant diplomatic damage. The response from Washington is swift: US President Donald Trump announces the withdrawal of 5,000 troops from Germany and possibly more. Rixa Fürsen explains why this leaves a dangerous gap in security arrangements, especially since planned deployments of long-range precision weapons like Tomahawk and Typhoon are canceled.

In the 200-second interview: Elif Eralp, the lead candidate for the Left Party in the upcoming September parliamentary election, emphasizes housing issues and advocates for the socialization of large property companies to make Berlin affordable again.

Oh, a whole year of Merz, and all we got was a diplomatic disaster and a coalition that bickers like a couple of old grandmas over knitting patterns. Bravo, really, the man deserves a medal for turning politics into a slapstick comedy! 😂

Who knew a year of Merz would be like watching paint dry—only with more squabbling, and a side of diplomatic faux pas? 🍷 If only he could juggle tax debates as well as he juggles public trust! 😅

Oh joy, another year of Merz—hope the coalition can agree on which way is up before the next election! 🚀 Just what we needed, more squabbling over taxes while the rest of the world wonders if we’ve lost the plot entirely. 🍻

One whole year of Merz and we’re still waiting for a sign of life in the black-red coalition—talk about a suspense thriller with no plot twist! 🎭 If only he could govern as well as he dodges accountability… 😂

Oh, a whole year of Merz—who knew you could achieve so little in so much time? Must be a new world record for governmental foot-dragging! 😂

What a remarkable way to celebrate a year in office—like trying to sell ice to an Eskimo while wearing a parka! 😂 Just what we need, more political drama and a sprinkle of diplomatic chaos!

So, Merz hits the one-year mark, and it’s like celebrating a birthday with a soggy cake — all the promises and none of the taste. 🍰 One can only hope he’s got a better strategy than dodging the political potholes ahead! 😅

One year in charge, and Merz is still trying to find his way like a tourist in a Berlin U-Bahn station. At this rate, they’ll need to put up more signs than the government has policies! 😂💼

Oh, a whole year of Merz and we’re still searching for the politician behind the curtain—at this rate, I might just start calling him the Wizard of Oz. 🎩📉

Oh, a whole year of Merz and all we got was this mediocre chaos—who knew governing could be so… thrilling? At this rate, I might just start charging for my advice on how to run a country; tips available for a pint! 🍺

Oh, a whole year of Merz! Who knew leading a coalition could be more complicated than herding cats in a Berlin pub? 🍻

A year of Merz in charge, and it seems the biggest achievement is mastering the art of dodging questions like a seasoned pro in a Berlin U-Bahn! 🇩🇪💼 Who knew being chancellor was just about keeping the seat warm while the real action happens elsewhere? 😅

Oh, a whole year of Merz and still managing to dodge the big rocks like a pro! Must be a special talent to turn a coalition into a circus act 🎪 while waving goodbye to trust like it’s yesterday’s news.
