Frederiksen stated that Danish authorities have not yet identified the perpetrators of the hybrid attacks on airports and other critical infrastructure, but suggested the Kremlin might be responsible.
“One country primarily threatens Europe’s security — and that is Russia,” she stated.
Europe is unsettled by recent airspace incursions involving Russian aircraft and drones. Estonia and Poland have held urgent talks with NATO members after accusing Russia of airspace violations in different incidents.
Moscow has denied responsibility for the Estonian incursion and claimed the Polish incident, involving drones crossing into Polish airspace, was accidental.
Shortly after Frederiksen’s remarks, Aalborg Airport in northern Denmark was briefly closed for the second consecutive night due to a suspected drone incursion.
Frederiksen noted she could not assure “no drones will cross the border,” but mentioned that Copenhagen has “raised the alert level” and is enhancing its drone-defense measures.
