During a visit to Brussels organized by the Permanent Representation of Cyprus to the European Union, a delegation of journalists and government officials toured the offices of the European Newsroom.
The timing was significant, as Cyprus is set to assume the rotating presidency of the Council of the EU on January 1, 2026, following Denmark’s presidency starting July 1, 2025. The Cypriot journalists were keen to enhance their understanding of EU reporting by gaining practical insights from the European Newsroom’s core team and learning about the operations of its network of 23 news agencies across Europe.
Tim Kohnen, Christian Röwekamp, and Ian Smith presented the European Newsroom project, guiding the journalists on key EU resources for their reporting, including publicly accessible information from the European Parliament and the European Commission.
The meeting was also attended by Stella Michael, Spokesperson for the Cyprus Presidency of the Council of the EU in Nicosia; Maria Phanti, Spokesperson Coreper II and Head of the Press Office at the Permanent Representation of Cyprus to the EU in Brussels; and Press Counsellor Maria Pattoura.
