Can Paracetamol During Pregnancy Cause Autism? Part I of III

Recently, I heard Donald Trump claim that paracetamol could affect autism, particularly if taken by pregnant women, and I chuckled, dismissing it as another outlandish statement. Following this, there was a backlash from Europeans, which seemed like another intellectual critique of Americans. While Latin Americans have cultural figures like Borges, they unfortunately face societal challenges, but that’s a different topic.

When Robert Kennedy Jr., the Health Minister, supported this claim, I laughed again. He’s known for eccentric views on health. Ignoring it initially, I decided to eventually explore this topic further. Despite being preoccupied with Spain’s politics, I picked up the “anti-inflammatory” pills and read the paracetamol user information. Researching further, I reached a documented conclusion worthy of analysis.

Does paracetamol cause autism? My answer is possibly yes. This research will be detailed in three articles, using only official sources. I will highlight my opinions for clarity.

Information for the User.

When prescribed medication, the information we receive is often minimal. Sometimes, we’re advised not to read the contraindications. However, neglecting them can lead to further issues.

One common question is whether we are allergic to certain medications. We typically answer no, but without proper analysis, we risk allergic reactions to synthetic medicine components. Besides paracetamol, the pill contains excipients like gluten-free pre-gelatinized corn starch, stearic acid, and others. That’s all.

Paracetamol is an analgesic and antipyretic, used for mild to moderate pain and fever in adults and adolescents over 15 and weighing over 50 kg.

Note that paracetamol is not for children under 15 or weighing less than 50 kg. The leaflet states it’s not for these age groups, and dosage should be confirmed with a doctor or pharmacist. How often have we halved a pill for a child or teenager?

The second note is simple and will be further discussed in article two: paracetamol’s sole purpose is mild or moderate pain relief.

Pain and fever are indicators. Visiting the doctor often results in a quick prescription for paracetamol or similar, without knowing the exact cause. For those over fifty, it might be attributed to age, with advice to take a pill as needed.

(If there’s a doctor who doesn’t follow this approach, I commend them for their patients’ sake)

Just what we needed, another ‘scientific’ take on paracetamol from the same folks who think Brexit was a good idea. 🤦‍♂️ If only we could prescribe a dose of common sense instead!

  4. Seems like the latest medical drama is brought to you by none other than paracetamol – because who wouldn’t want a little extra suspense during pregnancy, right? 😂 One more reason to keep the doctors on speed dial!

  5. Brilliant! I always thought the secret to success was just a sprinkle of paracetamol and a dash of controversy. Who knew a painkiller could double as a parenting manual? 😂💊

Seems like we’re diving into the depths of pharmacological philosophy here. Next up: a debate on whether chocolate sprinkles cause existential dread. 🤷‍♂️🍫
