Business Park Opens in Brussels

A new city park has opened in Brussels, close to the Brussels-Charleroi Canal.

citydev.brussels inaugurated the new SME park on Friday (12 December) in the presence of Anderlecht Mayor Fabrice Cumps.

The park, comprising 10 production workshops and named CanalCity due to its proximity to the canal, is located within a large mixed-use development by Deleers Residentieel, a collaboration between the private real estate developer Kairos and Federale Assurance.

In its 2021-2025 management contract, citydev.brussels committed to offering businesses 10 SME parks in the Brussels region. So, with CanalCity, the institution is delivering its ninth park. The tenth, Copernic in Haren, will be inaugurated in January.

In spring 2024, citydev.brussels reached an agreement with the private developer Kairos to acquire the new SME business park for €14,273,700.

Consultations then took place so that citydev.brussels could share its expertise with Kairos, as the SME business park was to be located beneath a primary school, a secondary school, and a daycare center.

The institution had already gained experience in this area with its NovaCity and CityCampus parks, also located in Anderlecht.

The CanalCity business park, developed by BAM Interbuild, covers an area of 6,000 m² and includes 10 production workshops ranging from 350 to 800 m², 26 parking spaces, and 60 bicycle parking spaces.

citydev.brussels will manage the SME business park and lease the spaces according to its usual terms and conditions.

Comment came from Barbara Trachte, State Secretary for Economic Transition.

Speaking on Friday, she said,

“Supporting SMEs and sustainably integrating productive activities into the urban fabric is one of the priority objectives of Brussels’ economic transition.”

“Doubling the number of SME parks was our goal at the start of this legislative term. Congratulations to citydev.brussels and all the stakeholders who made this possible.”

For the mayor of Anderlecht, Fabrice Cumps, CanalCity is the

“perfect illustration of the model we wish to implement in the new neighborhoods being developed in the municipality, particularly along the canal.”

Cumps added,

“The complex that houses CanalCity includes, in addition to the SME park that we are inaugurating today, accessible housing, a daycare center, a primary school and a secondary school. The mix of functions is at the heart of this urban project.”

Great, another business park in Brussels—just what we needed! 😏 Maybe next they’ll plant a few more coffee shops so the startups can have a proper meeting spot.

  2. CanalCity, huh? Because nothing screams “business innovation” like putting workshops under a school—ideal for those “hands-on” learning experiences! 😂

  3. CanalCity, eh? Because nothing screams “productive urban fabric” like a business park nestled beneath a school and daycare. Just what Brussels needed—more workshops to supplement our already bustling café culture. 🍻

Looks like they’ve managed to squeeze another “business park” next to the canal – just what Brussels needed! 🤷‍♂️ Maybe next time they’ll put in a few more bike racks than workshops, eh? 🏗️🚴‍♂️

A new business park, how original! Just what Brussels needed to spice up its canal views – because who wouldn’t want to develop their SME right next to a school and daycare? 😂💼

Oh great, another park for SMEs in Brussels – because what we really needed was more places for businesses to feel as lost as they do in the city traffic! 🚦💼

  7. Oh great, just what we needed – another business park to blend in with the canal’s charming aroma of bureaucracy and ambition. 🌊🚧 Can’t wait to see the SMEs flourishing right next to the playground – multitasking at its finest! 😏

  10. CanalCity, eh? Nothing says “thriving economy” like cramming workshops under schools—should make for some interesting parent-teacher meetings! 😂

Just what Brussels needed, another park to help our SMEs flourish—because nothing says “economic growth” like squeezing businesses under schools and daycare centers. Hope they have a nice view of the canal while they’re at it! 😂💼

Another business park in Brussels? Brilliant, because nothing says “urban charm” quite like a bunch of workshops and a daycare all under one roof! 🙄🏙️

Just what we needed, another park to “boost” the local economy—because who doesn’t love a little greenery with their bureaucracy? 🌳💼

A new business park in Brussels? Brilliant idea! Just what we needed—more concrete and fewer green spaces. 🙄💼

  15. Just what we needed, another business park! 🙄 Because nothing screams vibrant city life like a cluster of production workshops next to a canal—like putting lipstick on a Brussels sprout! 🥴

  16. So, we’ve built a new business park in Brussels—because clearly, what this city really needed was more workshops next to schools. 🎉 Who needs peace and quiet when you can have the sound of production right next to the kids? 😂
