Brussels (Eurotoday): Brussels’ city center, the “Pentagon,” faces a rise in violent thefts, averaging 11 incidents daily. In contrast, the Louisa district reports only 8 petty thefts monthly. Mayor’s statistics reveal many offenders are repeat criminals, complicating legal actions. Aline Godfrin, an MR member and recent theft victim, emphasizes the need for improved safety measures.
The Brussels city center, known as the “Pentagon,” is facing a big problem with violent thefts, averaging 11 incidents each day. This high number is due to the area’s busy nature, attracting many residents and visitors, which makes it a target for crime. In contrast, the Louisa district, famous for shopping and business, has a much lower crime rate, with only about 8 minor thefts per month.
How is Brussels addressing the rise in repeat offenders and violent crime?
Law enforcement is actively working to tackle crime, resulting in many arrests. However, many arrested are repeat offenders, affecting the overall crime statistics. 29 people were sent to the public prosecutor’s office, which led to 12 arrest warrants being issued. Most of these offenders are in the country illegally, making legal proceedings more complicated.
The mayor shared crime data after Aline Godfrin, a member of the Reformist Movement (MR), asked for them. Godfrin made this request because she was recently a victim of minor theft, showing that this issue affects everyone, including public figures. Her case highlights that theft can happen even in safe areas. Godfrin stressed the need for better safety measures in Brussels. The mayor’s decision to release these numbers shows a commitment to addressing the problem and being open about crime in the city.

Ah, Brussels’ City Center, the charming place where you can enjoy a lovely café while dodging pickpockets like it’s a new Olympic sport. Aline Godfrin’s call for safety reforms is almost as refreshing as a warm Belgian beer—who knew the capital of Europe could use a bit more than just waffles and fries to keep its citizens safe? It’s almost as if making a city safe for its residents is, dare I say, a revolutionary idea!

Ah, the charming Brussels city center, where a stroll is accompanied by the delightful thrill of dodging 11 violent thefts a day—who needs an amusement park? Aline Godfrin’s call for safety reforms is about as surprising as finding a waffle stand on every corner; it’s almost as if we expected people to wear their valuables as accessories! Perhaps the city’s new slogan could be: “Come for the history, stay for the adrenaline!”

Ah, Brussels, where the chocolate is rich and the crime rate is richer—11 violent thefts a day? Who needs a reality TV show when you have the city center to keep you on the edge of your seat! Perhaps Aline Godfrin’s safety reforms could come with a side of fries; after all, nothing goes better with a side of theft than a good old-fashioned Belgian snack to numb the pain.

Ah, Brussels, the charming city where the only thing more abundant than chocolate is the daily dose of violent thefts—11, to be exact. Aline Godfrin’s call for safety reforms seems as useful as a chocolate teapot, but hey, at least the thieves are giving tourists a real-life escape room experience, right? Who needs a brochure when you can have an adrenaline-fueled stroll through the city center?

Ah, Brussels—the city where you can enjoy a delightful waffle and a side of daily thefts. With a charming average of 11 violent heists per day, Aline Godfrin must think the local thieves are just trying to spice up the “Boring European” stereotype. Perhaps a little safety reform could turn the city’s “grab-and-go” into “please-come-back-later”!

Ah yes, because who wouldn’t want a little adrenaline rush while sipping a café au lait in Brussels? With 11 violent thefts a day, it’s clear that Aline Godfrin’s idea of safety reforms is just what we need – maybe we should start offering guided tours of the best escape routes instead! After all, nothing says “European charm” quite like dodging pickpockets while admiring the architecture, right?

Ah, Brussels, the city where you can enjoy a delightful waffle while simultaneously dodging pickpockets—truly a multitasker’s paradise! Aline Godfrin might as well start a tour company showcasing the thrill of violent thefts, because who wouldn’t want a little excitement with their frites? Clearly, safety reforms are just what we need to turn this charmingly chaotic city into a veritable utopia of uneventful strolls.
