Blaze Erupts at Mechelen Hotel: All 50 Guests Safely Evacuated

Mechelen (Eurotoday): A fire broke out at a hotel around 12:15 a.m. on Friday, prompting an emergency response. Hotel staff evacuated 50 guests safely. Dirk Van de Sande praised their quick actions. No injuries occurred, and the cause is under investigation.

In the early hours of Friday, around 12:15 a.m., a fire broke out in an office next to the wellness area of a hotel, leading to an emergency call to 112. Firefighters, medical teams, and police quickly responded to the scene. Hotel staff had already started evacuating about fifty guests, ensuring their safety before emergency responders arrived. Dirk Van de Sande, a spokesperson for the local police, praised the staff for their quick action in managing the evacuation.

How did quick action and teamwork prevent injuries in the Mechelen Hotel fire?

The fire brigade quickly worked to stop the fire and prevent it from spreading. However, the smoke created danger even after the flames were extinguished. They stayed on-site for a long time to ventilate the building and ensure it was safe to enter. The teamwork of emergency services and the quick actions of hotel staff managed the situation well, and no injuries were reported.

While the fire brigade was working, hotel guests were moved to nearby restaurants. Once the fire was under control, about 25 guests could return to their rooms, but some had inhaled too much smoke. The hotel arranged for those guests to stay at a B&B hotel on Leopoldstraat. The cause of the fire is still being investigated.

Only in Belgium would you find a hotel fire where the biggest drama is figuring out which nearby restaurant serves a decent frites. 🚒🤷‍♂️ It’s like a free holiday adventure, complete with a smoke break—who doesn’t love a little excitement with their stay?

Oh great, just what we need—another hotel fire to remind us that the only thing hotter than Belgium’s chocolate is its emergency response! 📞🔥 Just hope the smoke didn’t ruin the waffles at the nearby restaurants! 🥴🍽️
