Brussels (Eurotoday) – Belgium’s Foreign Minister Bernard Quintin will lead an EU delegation to Ghana’s President-elect’s inauguration on Jan 7, 2025.
Bernard Quintin has been tasked by Kaja Kallas, the European Union’s High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, with representing the European Union at this important event.
As reported by Joy Online, the delegation blank”>seeks to “reaffirm EU-Ghana partnership preferences on job creation, economic diversification, sustainability, and regional security.” They will be accompanied by top officials such as Mr. Irchad Razaaly, European Union Ambassador to Ghana, and Mrs. Carole van Eyll, Belgium’s Ambassador to Ghana, among others.
John Dramani Mahama has emerged as the winner and is thereby now the President-elect of Ghana. Mahama of Ghana received 6,328,397 votes, garnering 56.55% of the total valid votes in the just-ended presidential election, which was conducted on December 7, 2024.
The New Patriotic Party, NPP candidate Mahamudu Bawumia is the nearest challenger of Mahama; Bawumia collected 4,657,304 votes, which accounts for 41.61%, and he also accepted defeat almost immediately when the outcome of the elections was made public.
Ghana and the EU have been interconnected through several economic cooperation agreements pertaining to sustainable development and trade over the years. The Economic Partnership Agreement between the EU and Ghana is an opportunity for both of them to open up trade boundaries, thereby cutting tariffs and most other barriers and making Ghana products duty-free and quota-free to obtain entry into the EU market, which would enhance trade and boost growth.

Oh, fantastic! Nothing screams “serious diplomacy” quite like a Belgian Foreign Minister leading a delegation to an inauguration in Ghana—because who doesn’t want to mix waffles with West Africa? 🍻😏

Who needs a holiday in the sun when you can lead an EU delegation to Ghana? 🍹 Nothing screams “party” quite like discussing sustainable development over tea and biscuits! 😂🧐

Oh brilliant, nothing says “Ghanaian democracy” quite like a Belgian politician leading the EU delegation—because obviously, when I think of African affairs, my mind goes straight to waffles and frites! 🍟🤦♂️
