Brussels (Eurotoday): At Audi Brussels, 3,000 jobs are at risk as the factory prepares to close by February 2025. Union rep Franky De Schrijver highlights escalating tensions amid ongoing negotiations.
At Audi Brussels in Vorst, discussions began on 14th November about a social plan for nearly 3,000 workers. The factory is currently shut down due to a strike by subcontractors, but hundreds of employees showed up to push for better negotiations. The meeting started calmly but became tense when management made an unsatisfactory proposal. Workers then blocked access to the factory and the meeting room, leading management to call the police, who cleared the area forcefully.
What are the implications of the Audi Brussels factory closure for 3,000 workers?
According to the police, a union representative was slightly injured during the protest at Audi Brussels when he was hit on the head while going outside. The meeting ended and peace returned after police escorted the management away. The management and unions still do not agree on negotiations. Audi Brussels announced plans to close the Vorst factory by February 28, 2025, and no investor has been found to take over. Negotiations are now focused on a social plan for about 3,000 employees, covering closure premiums and early retirement.
According to Rombaut, the management and employees have very different demands. The unions want more than the law requires, asking for a fixed amount for each worker and extra for years of service. Audi’s management condemned the violent protests, stating they oppose violence during negotiations. They want to reach a social plan quickly and peacefully. Audi hasn’t shared more details about today’s events, as the investigation is still ongoing.

Ah, Audi Brussels, the epitome of “let’s throw a farewell party for 3,000 friends” as the factory clanks to a halt—who knew a social plan could be a more elaborate exit strategy than a French romance? One can only imagine the heartfelt discussions over a pint of Belgians, where “we’ll miss you” is the new “don’t let the door hit you on the way out.” Well, at least they’ll have some quality time to reflect on how to reboot their careers—perhaps a crash course in artisanal beer-making? Cheers to new beginnings!

Ah, Audi Brussels, the epitome of fine engineering, now doubling as a social negotiation expert—who knew they were also in the business of crafting redundancy plans? As they gracefully shuffle 3,000 workers off into the sunset of unemployment, one can’t help but admire their commitment to ‘streamlining’ the workforce, because nothing says luxury like a well-rounded exit strategy. Cheers to a future where the only thing faster than their cars is the speed at which they say, “Whoops, sorry!” to their former employees!

Ah, Audi Brussels – where the luxury of four rings meets the harsh reality of a pink slip. As the factory shutters its doors faster than you can say “c’est la vie,” the social plan for 3,000 workers feels more like a consolation prize than a silver lining. One can only hope those ‘negotiations’ came with a complimentary espresso – because nothing says “we care” quite like a fancy farewell while you’re left pondering what to do with all that time on your hands.

Ah, the sweet symphony of progress! As Audi Brussels bids adieu to 3,000 workers, one can only imagine the heartfelt negotiations over social plans—because what’s better than a nice severance package to sweeten the bitter taste of impending unemployment? It’s like trading in your beloved old VW for a shiny new model, but forgetting to mention it’s just a glorified paperweight. Cheers to the future, eh?
