“We will challenge those who consider themselves untouchable,” Sánchez declared to the audience. “The billionaires with boundless greed, those who speculate with people’s homes,” he added.
He highlighted oligarchs “who aim to amass wealth at the expense of our democracy and the mental health of our youth.”
“When we progressives gain power, it is not to cater to the elites — we assert our authority,” stated Sánchez.
He mentioned that the far right was “organizing globally” but emphasized that their numbers signified weakness rather than strength. “They make noise not because they are succeeding, but because they know their time is nearly up,” he remarked.
Around 6,000 left-leaning politicians, policy analysts, and activists attended the event in Barcelona. Organizers noted the gathering would conclude with a joint declaration focused on coordinated action addressing shared priorities like inequality, climate change, and digital regulation.
The event attracted a diverse array of leaders, including Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, South Africa’s Cyril Ramaphosa, and Colombian President Gustavo Petro.
