A Russian airstrike on Wednesday night struck a hotel in a densely populated civilian neighborhood in Kryvyi Rih, also damaging 14 residential buildings, two schools, two kindergartens, a post office, and multiple businesses, according to Mayor Oleksandr Vilkul in a Telegram post.
The attack left more than 30 people injured, including a 13-year-old girl, Vilkul reported. Among them, 28 individuals were hospitalized, with three in extremely critical condition and 11 in serious condition.
The Russian Defense Ministry has not yet commented on the strike. This comes just days after the United States halted all military aid to Ukraine and cut off intelligence sharing in an effort to pressure President Volodymyr Zelenskyy into negotiations—without any security guarantees from Washington.
The suspension of intelligence sharing coincides with an increase in Russian drone and missile strikes across Ukraine, depleting Kyiv’s air defense missile stocks. Along with Kryvyi Rih, Kharkiv, Odesa, and Sumy were also targeted. The Ukrainian Air Force reported that it shot down 68 out of 112 Russian drones, but no missiles.
Intelligence support has previously been crucial in helping Ukraine anticipate and counter Russian missile strikes.
“Every day, Ukrainian families depend on timely, accurate intelligence to protect themselves and their children from relentless Russian missile and drone attacks,” said Paul Grod, president of the Ukrainian World Congress advocacy group, in a statement on Wednesday.
“This vital information is more than just strategic support—it is a matter of life and death, giving civilians precious minutes to seek safety underground,” he emphasized.
