Antwerp House Fire Leaves Two Hospitalized; Dog Rescued

Antwerp (Eurotoday) – A fire broke out in Vliegenstraat, Antwerp, destroying a house and hospitalizing two people for smoke inhalation. Firefighters evacuated neighbors, prevented further damage, and rescued a dog. The cause is under investigation.

On February 26, 2025, a house on Vliegenstraat in Antwerp caught fire. The ground floor was where the fire began, and it swiftly spread to the upper floors. Thick smoke filled the air as the flames grew intense. By the time firefighters arrived, the house had already sustained severe damage.

How did the Antwerp fire destroy a home?

Firefighters acted quickly to evacuate neighboring houses and keep residents safe. They used high-pressure hoses and tall ladders to battle the fire for several hours, ensuring it did not spread to other homes. Emergency workers remained on-site throughout the night to monitor the situation and secure the area.

Officials reported that once the fire was finally extinguished, assessments were conducted to determine the extent of the damage and investigate the cause. Residents who had been evacuated had to wait before returning to their homes. The incident caused alarm in the neighborhood, but fortunately, no fatalities occurred.

“When we arrived on the scene, the residents were fortunately already safe,”

said Jasmien O of the Antwerp fire brigade zone.

“Because the fire threatened to spread to the houses next door, we had to evacuate residents there as well.”

Firefighters worked tirelessly to prevent the fire from spreading. A fire department official mentioned that while some neighboring houses suffered minor damage, including a broken window, they were largely spared. Once the area was deemed safe, evacuated residents were allowed to return home. However, the house where the fire started was almost completely destroyed.

Authorities confirmed that all occupants of the house managed to escape safely. However, two individuals suffered from smoke inhalation and required hospitalization. One was a resident of the affected house, while the other was a neighbor impacted by the heavy smoke. Firefighters also rescued a dog from the burning house.

Just another day in Antwerp, where a fire breaks out and the dog gets more attention than the two hospitalized humans. 🐶🔥 But hey, at least the neighbors got their windows smashed for free—who needs a renovation budget, right? 😏

Just another day in Antwerp, where a cozy evening by the fireplace turns into a full-blown smoke signal for the firefighters. At least the dog got a heroic exit—maybe they should consider a career change! 🐶🔥

  4. Just what Antwerp needed, right? A bit of excitement with a fire—thank goodness the dog got out; it’s the only one that’ll be barking about any ‘hot’ property now! 🐶🔥

Just another day in Antwerp, where our homes are getting a fiery upgrade and our dogs are getting the five-star rescue treatment 🐶🔥. I suppose when life gives you smoke inhalation, you just have to cough up the medical bills like a true European! 💸😏

  6. Looks like Antwerp’s got its own version of ‘Survivor: Home Edition’—two hospitalised, a dog saved, and a house that must’ve taken its ‘cooking’ skills a bit too seriously! 🐶🔥 Let’s hope the next episode features less smoke and more common sense, eh? 😅

Just another day in Antwerp, where we save dogs and hospitalize residents—what a great way to spice up the neighborhood gossip! 🐶🔥 Guess the fire brigade’s getting more action than a Belgian waffle joint on a Sunday! 😏

  8. Just another day in Antwerp, where even the houses are catching fire to keep things spicy! 🔥 At least the dog made it out; that’s the real headline, innit? 🐶
