Algerian Man Apprehended After Colliding with Police Car in Schaerbeek

Schearbeek (Brussels Morning Newspaper) – An Algerian man rammed a police car on Saturday morning, Nov 8, 2025, in Schaerbeek. The driver, staying illegally and without a license, was arrested. Brussels prosecutors confirmed the incident, and the investigation continues.

As GVA News reported, a man rammed a police car on Saturday morning, Nov 8, 2025, in Schaerbeek, a municipality in the Brussels Capital Region, Belgium, during a police check. The incident took place on Brabantstraat when a patrol tried to check a driver travelling just ahead of them. As the officers got out of their van, the driver deliberately drove into the side of the police car.

What happened when an Algerian driver rammed a police car in Schaerbeek?

The driver was identified as an Algerian national staying in Belgium illegally. He also did not have a driver’s license. Police arrested him on the scene. He has not provided any explanation for his actions.

The Brussels public prosecutor’s office confirmed the arrest and acknowledged the incident. No further details have been released yet. Authorities continue to investigate the circumstances of the attack.

Brussels police have faced similar incidents in the past, where drivers tried to evade checks by ramming patrol vehicles. In 2022, a man in Brussels hit a police car while fleeing a traffic stop for driving without a license.
