The International Dance Festival, directed by the acclaimed Albanian choreographer Angelin Preljocaj, launched its inaugural performances in Tirana, featuring renowned choreographers from both Europe and Albania.
With support from the European Union, this year’s edition takes contemporary dance beyond traditional venues, engaging communities across various city areas.
The EU delegation in Tirana emphasized that this initiative reinforces a shared commitment to inclusivity by making dance more accessible to communities.
The festival kicked off at the Community Center “Let’s Stay Together,” showcasing “G.U.I.D.” by Ballet Preljocaj, a performance designed to adapt to its surroundings and turn everyday spaces into stages for everyone.
“When ballet is brought to public spaces, it can bridge generations and connect diverse cultures, nationalities, and perspectives. It serves as a universal language that fosters connections often beyond words. This is the true essence of this art form,” remarked EU ambassador Slvio Gonzato during the festival’s opening.
Also present, Albanian Minister of Tourism, Culture, and Sports, Blendi Gonxhja, expressed that when culture engages with the community, it allows for shared emotions and narratives, reminding us that art is for everyone and can resonate with every heart.
This marks the first week of the festival’s 4th edition. Over three weeks, the event will feature the latest works from more than 13 choreographers and international companies. The program commenced with four public performances across the city and five shows at the Metropol Theatre and the National Theatre of Opera and Ballet.
The festival is scheduled from October 9 to 25, offering free performances in public spaces across Tirana. (October 10)
