Agricultural Production Value in the EU Decreased by 0.9% in 2024

Brussels – In 2024, the value of agricultural production in the European Union (EU) reached 531.9 billion euros at basic prices, reflecting a 0.9% decline from 2023, as reported by Eurostat on Friday. This marks the second consecutive year of a “slight decline” in this indicator.

Eurostat explained that the nominal value changes were driven by a 1% increase in production volume, counterbalanced by a 1.8% decrease in the nominal prices of agricultural products and services.

The countries with the highest agricultural production values last year were France (88.3 billion euros), Germany (75.5 billion), Italy (70.2 billion), and Spain (68.7 billion). They were followed by the Netherlands (41.3 billion euros), Poland (39.5 billion), and Romania (20.2 billion). These seven countries accounted for 75.9% of the EU’s estimated agricultural production value.

In 2024, fifteen member states reported higher agricultural production values than in 2023, with the most significant increases seen in Ireland (8.9% more), Croatia (8.8%), and Sweden (5%). Conversely, notable declines were recorded in France (9% less), Romania (8.5%), and Bulgaria (8%).

Crops comprised half (50.3%) of the overall agricultural production value in the Twenty-Seven, totaling 267.7 billion euros, while animals and animal products contributed over two-fifths (41.1%) with 218.8 billion euros. The remainder stemmed from agricultural services and secondary activities.

In 2024, the costs of agricultural inputs in the EU unrelated to investment (intermediate consumption) decreased by 3.7% compared to 2023, totaling 303.3 billion euros. These changes in agricultural production value and intermediate consumption led to a 3.1% increase in the gross value added from agriculture, reaching 228.6 billion euros.

Looks like the EU’s agricultural sector has really outdone itself this year—almost like a fine wine that just got a bit too sour! 🍷💸 A 0.9% dip in value? Bravo, who knew farming could be such an exhilarating rollercoaster ride!

Looks like the EU’s agricultural production is on a diet – losing a cheeky 0.9% while claiming to bulk up in volume. Who knew farming could be so… *unproductive*? 🌾😂

Looks like the EU’s agricultural charm is fading faster than a French croissant left out overnight. But hey, at least we can console ourselves with the thought that the rise in production volume is just a fancy way of saying we grew more… for less! 😂💸

Oh, brilliant! A 0.9% drop in agri-value—just what we needed to spice up the Brussels meetings. 🥳 I suppose we’ll just have to plant a few more potatoes and hope for a miracle, eh? 🍟

Looks like the EU’s agricultural sector is really thriving… if by “thriving” you mean a charming little -0.9%. Bravo, let’s all raise a toast to declining prices while production volumes pretend to be on a growth spurt! 🍷😏

Seems like our farmers are doing a splendid job of turning gold into straw, eh? 🍞 A real talent for making less while growing more – must be the secret sauce of European agriculture! 😂

  8. Looks like EU agriculture is on a rollercoaster – up by volume but down by price, just like my last holiday in the Alps! 🍷🚜 At this rate, we’ll be farming for the joy of it, rather than the euros, innit?

So, let me get this straight: we’re producing more but somehow earning less? Classic EU magic—next, they’ll tell us the cows are mooing in euros too. 🐄💶

Another year, another drop in the agricultural value – looks like even the crops are feeling the pinch. 🌾 But hey, at least we can say we’re getting better at producing less for more! 😂

Seems like the EU’s agricultural sector is on a rollercoaster ride, but not the fun kind—more like a “whoops, we lost 0.9% on the way down” sort of thrill. 🌾💸 Maybe next year they’ll manage to plant some optimism alongside those crops!
