Sint-Truiden (Eurotoday): CD&V, led by Ingrid Kempeneers, challenged Sint-Truiden’s election results over proxy votes. Their complaint was rejected, raising tensions.
The CD&V party, led by former mayor Ingrid Kempeneers, has raised concerns about the October municipal elections in Sint-Truiden. They say there were many mistakes and too many proxy votes. CD&V believes these issues might have affected the election results and questioned their fairness.
What concerns did CD&V raise about the Sint-Truiden elections?
CD&V has decided not to take the case to the Council of State despite having the opportunity to do so until today, January 3. After consulting their team, they concluded that discussing what is best for the Sint-Truiden people is more important. Ingrid Kempeneers mentioned that filing a complaint would only create confusion for residents. This decision will result in the new local government meeting next Monday, where Ludwig Vandenhove from Vooruit will become the mayor, and Kempeneers and CD&V will sit in the opposition.
Right before Christmas, they filed a complaint with the Council for Electoral Disputes and asked them to investigate these flaws, but they refused CD&V’s complaints and confirmed that election results in Sint-Truiden were correct. They found there wasn’t enough proof to support CD&V’s claims. This was a big disappointment for CD&V, as it ended their attempts to challenge the results. This situation has increased political tension in Sint-Truiden.

Oh, brilliant! Nothing screams “democracy” quite like a political party throwing a tantrum over proxy votes while simultaneously deciding that clarity is overrated. Just what Sint-Truiden needs—a new mayor and some delightful confusion! 😂🍷

Oh, look at that! CD&V’s concerns about Sint-Truiden’s elections—truly groundbreaking stuff, like discovering that water is wet. 🥴 Who knew proxy votes could stir such a ruckus? It’s almost as if they thought the election was a game of Monopoly rather than a serious affair. 😂
