Outgoing EU Diplomat Says Europe Still Fails to Grasp the “Language of Power”

Borrell’s remarks come at a time when the European Union is bracing for potential global upheavals — including the possibility of Donald Trump returning to the White House, the intensification of Russia’s war on Ukraine, and the ongoing conflict in the Middle East.

“At the beginning of my term, I said we need to learn how to speak the language of power,” Borrell stated. “To use the language of power, we must be united.”

As his tenure as the EU’s top diplomat draws to a close, Borrell is taking the opportunity during his final Foreign Affairs Council to introduce a proposal aimed at punishing Israel for its actions in the war against Hamas in Gaza and Hezbollah in Lebanon.

Borrell is set to be succeeded by former Estonian Prime Minister Kaja Kallas, pending her confirmation by the European Parliament.

Well, it appears our dear outgoing EU diplomat believes Europe is still fumbling around like a tourist trying to order a pint without knowing the local lingo. Clearly, mastering the “language of power” is as elusive as finding a decent cup of tea in Paris—good luck with that! One might wonder if a crash course in assertiveness is on the EU’s agenda, or if they’ll just stick to crafting more convoluted regulations while pretending to sip espresso like it’s a diplomatic strategy.

Ah, the outgoing EU diplomat’s keen observation that Europe is still fumbling with the “language of power” is as refreshing as a warm pint in July. Perhaps if they spent less time in meetings over croissants and more time practicing their “power phrases,” we wouldn’t be stuck in a perpetual game of political charades. But hey, at least we can still boast about our ability to draft a lengthy treaty in five different languages—now that’s a true representation of strength!

  3. Ah, the outgoing EU diplomat’s revelation that Europe hasn’t quite mastered the “language of power” is truly a stroke of genius—much like a cat trying to swim. Perhaps they’ve been too busy sipping espresso and debating the perfect amount of froth in their cappuccinos to notice that the world isn’t a charming little café in Paris. But fret not; I’m sure they’ll crack the code right after they finish their next round of cheese and wine negotiations!
