Poland regards Albania as a crucial ally, which is why Polish Foreign Minister Radoslaw Sikorski chose to visit Tirana prior to assuming the rotating presidency of the European Union.
During an interview with Albanian Radio and Television, he expressed clear expectations for Albania’s integration into the EU.
“I am here in Albania because we value its moral stance regarding Russian aggression in Ukraine. We admire the alignment of Albania’s foreign policy with that of the European Union and recognize the substantial efforts Albania has undertaken towards European integration. As the upcoming EU presidency leader, I wanted to personally witness the progress Albania has made and to communicate our hope of opening another negotiation chapter with you during our presidency,” Minister Sikorski stated.
He also mentioned potential areas for defense collaboration between the two nations.
“You are a strong ally within NATO and are now taking a leading role in the membership process. A few years ago, you were at the back of the line, but now you’re at the forefront,” he noted.
A former journalist who previously served as Poland’s Minister of Defense, Sikorski currently acts as the country’s chief diplomat and is a prominent advocate against Russian aggression in Ukraine.
“Ukraine and Russia share borders with Poland, and we have a unique situation. We have revitalized our military production, and it’s imperative for European nations to do the same. From what I’ve gathered, Albania is also advancing in this regard, reaffirming our status as allies,” Sikorski added. (December 24)
