Last Sunday, on 1st December, police in Antwerp spotted two men acting suspiciously on the Meir shopping street. The officers decided to keep an eye on them and soon saw the men run out of a store with stolen T-shirts. They followed the men and watched as they handed the stolen items to a third person who was their partner.
How did Antwerp police uncover a theft operation?
blank” rel=”noopener”>Police quickly caught the third suspect and searched him, finding a big bag of new sports clothes. The clothes still had security tags on them, showing they were stolen. The total value of the stolen items was about 880 euros. Along with the sportswear, officers discovered a stolen computer in the bag, suggesting the theft might be part of a bigger operation targeting local stores. Police acted fast and stopped the suspects from throwing away the stolen stuff or running away with it.
Police are trying to find the owners of the stolen items to return them to the stores. They are also looking into what the suspects did and if they are involved in other crimes. It has been said that this shows how important it is for police to watch busy shopping areas like the Meir, where shoplifting happens a lot.
