Arteta Praises Arsenal’s Maturity After Victory Over Aston Villa in Birmingham

Birmingham, 1 September (Brussels Morning Newspaper) – Mikel Arteta praised Arsenal’s maturity, squad strength and ability to manage difficult moments after Bukayo Saka’s second-half goal secured a 1-0 Premier League victory over Aston Villa at Villa Park. The Arteta Aston Villa reaction centred on the way Arsenal controlled pressure and found a way to win a demanding away fixture.

Saka scored the only goal in the 59th minute after Riccardo Calafiori delivered a low ball into the area following good work involving substitute Eberechi Eze. Aston Villa had threatened before the breakthrough, with Emi Buendía hitting the crossbar, but Unai Emery’s side were unable to register a shot on target.

The victory left Arsenal with six points from their opening two Premier League matches and another clean sheet as Arteta’s side continued a strong start to the defence of their title.

Why Arteta believes Arsenal handled Villa better

Arteta described the result as a “massive win” and said the contribution of the entire squad proved important against a Villa side capable of applying sustained pressure.

“I think it was a squad victory today and everybody that was involved in the game in any capacity made a difference for us,” Arteta said after the match.

The Arsenal manager also reflected on his side’s previous visit to Villa Park, where they had suffered a costly defeat. Arteta said that result remained fresh in the minds of his players and helped shape their approach this time.

He described the latest performance as “very different”, pointing to greater maturity and a better understanding of how to respond when the momentum of the match changed.

The Arteta Aston Villa assessment also underlined the importance of Arsenal’s bench. Bruno Guimarães and Ezri Konsa were among those introduced, with Konsa making his Arsenal debut against the club he had recently left.

Arteta praised the defender for handling what he acknowledged was an emotionally demanding occasion with composure.
