More and more foreign tourists are opting for Turkey for their summer vacations, cultural tourism, and visits to historical landmarks. As a result, the country has achieved historic success, ranking fourth among the world’s most visited countries.
According to the latest “Most Visited Countries in 2026” report by World Population Review, based on UN Tourism data, Turkey has welcomed 60.6 million foreign visitors, reaching fourth place globally for the first time. Only France with 102 million visitors, Spain with 93.8 million, and the USA with 73.4 million surpass it. Following Turkey are countries with well-established tourism traditions such as Italy, Mexico, the UK, Germany, Japan, and Greece.
This success indicates the rapid development of tourism in Turkey in recent years. Besides the record number of visitors, Turkey reports tourism revenues exceeding $56.3 billion, placing it among the world’s strongest tourism economies.
One significant factor in this impressive tourism development is Turkey’s rich cultural and historical heritage. The country boasts numerous UNESCO-protected sites, hundreds of museums, ancient cities, fortresses, palaces, and archaeological reserves. Recently, Turkish authorities have heavily invested in restoring historical monuments, archaeological excavations, constructing new museums, and developing cultural routes.
The program for evening museum visits, allowing access to many sites after sunset, is also garnering significant interest.
The international report indicates that Turkey’s rise to fourth place globally shows it is no longer just a popular summer vacation spot but a leading tourist powerhouse worldwide. For foreign tourists, this means a broader range of vacation options, visits to world-famous historical landmarks, modern resorts, and new cultural routes, attracting more guests from around the globe annually.
