US Removes Sanctions on UN Expert Francesca Albanese

“Protecting freedom of speech is ‘always’ in the public interest,” stated U.S. District Judge Richard Leon in a 26-page opinion with the order.

Albanese is a highly polarizing figure linked to the Gaza conflict. At the U.N., she wrote a report accusing major U.S. companies of complicity in Israel’s “genocidal campaign in Gaza.”

When Washington sanctioned her in July 2025, Secretary of State Marco Rubio accused her of spreading antisemitism and supporting terrorism. He mentioned her contempt for the U.S., Israel, and the West.

The Israeli mission to the U.N. in Geneva labeled her as “an agent of chaos” in March, accusing her of “virulent antisemitism” and backing extremist views. Albanese has denied being antisemitic, while her family sued the Trump administration over these sanctions.

The move comes as European criticism of Israel’s actions in Gaza grows.

On Wednesday, Italian PM Giorgia Meloni and Spanish PM Pedro Sánchez criticized Israeli security minister Itamar Ben-Gvir for the treatment of Flotilla activists detained for trying to breach Gaza’s naval blockade.

Hamas attacked Israel on October 7, 2023, killing about 1,200 people in Israel, mostly civilians, and taking 251 hostages. This attack led to an extensive Israeli military response in Gaza, resulting in the deaths of tens of thousands of Palestinians, displacement of 90% of Gaza’s population, and widespread destruction. A ceasefire, orchestrated by President Donald Trump in October 2025, saw the release of the remaining 20 Israeli hostages.

Oh, so now we’re celebrating freedom of speech, eh? Must’ve misplaced it in the depths of the U.S. political circus, right alongside common sense! 😂🇪🇺

Looks like the US just took a masterclass in selective freedom of speech. Bravo, chaps! 🙄 Who knew protecting a “polarizing figure” was all the rage these days?

Funny how the US is all about “protecting freedom of speech” now—next, they’ll be giving out medals for diplomatic tightrope walking! 🤨💼

Right, so the US thinks letting this lady off the hook is a grand gesture for free speech, eh? Must be nice to have a policy that’s as flexible as a gymnast at the Olympics! 🙄

Brilliant, isn’t it? Just when you thought the U.S. had run out of ways to put the ‘fun’ in dysfunction, here comes a sanctions rollercoaster for our dear Francesca. 🎢 As if the chaos wasn’t enough, let’s add a sprinkle of ‘freedom of speech’ to the mix—just what every diplomat dreams of! 😂

Oh, look at the U.S. playing the role of the freedom fighter again, just when you thought they were only good for sanctions and chaos. Guess it’s time for a new episode of “Who’s Sanctioned Now?” 🎭

So the Yanks think lifting the sanctions on Albanese is a masterstroke for free speech? Quite the spectacle, isn’t it? Maybe next they’ll let the clowns in charge at the U.N. juggle chainsaws for entertainment! 😂

Oh, brilliant! Nothing like a good ol’ U.S. sanction lift to get the free speech party started—who knew we were all just waiting for a UN expert to spice things up? 🎉

So, the US is backpedaling on sanctions like a pro footballer dodging a tackle – who knew freedom of speech came with so many asterisks? 🤷‍♂️ Guess we’ll just ignore all the ‘chaos agents’ in the room while we sip our espresso. ☕️

So, the U.S. has decided to let Francesca Albanese roam free—guess freedom of speech is the latest form of political hot potato, eh? 🍟 Can’t wait to see how that one plays out over a pint in the pub!

Just what we needed, another U.S. judge with a flair for the dramatic. Free speech is grand, but it seems the only thing more polarizing than Albanese is the coffee in a dodgy European café! ☕😏

Just what we needed, another round of “let’s play nice” with a UN figure who thinks the world is her personal soapbox. 🧐 Guess freedom of speech really gets a glow-up when it’s got a bit of chaos sprinkled on top, eh? 😏
