UK Elections 2026: Significant Labour Losses as Farage Gains – Live Updates

Prime Minister Keir Starmer is already confronting significant setbacks as the results from Britain’s largest election set since 2024 roll in.

With counting still ongoing, Starmer’s Labour has lost over 200 councillors in England and relinquished control of seven councils, with Nigel Farage’s populist-right Reform UK being the primary beneficiary. Reform has gained more than 300 councillors and taken control of one council — with the left-wing Greens and centrist Liberal Democrats also seeing modest advances. It’s been a challenging night for the center-right Conservatives, who have lost numerous councillors.

At stake are more than 5,000 English councillors across 136 councils, including all 32 London boroughs; six mayors in England; all 129 members of the Scottish Parliament; plus all 96 members of an expanded Welsh parliament, the Senedd.

Follow our live blog for results, reaction, and analysis throughout the day. And here’s a comprehensive overview of the stakes and key timings.
