The First Presidency of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints has shared the open house and dedication dates for the Montpelier Idaho Temple.
A media day is set for Tuesday, September 8, 2026, with private tours for invited guests on September 9. Public tours are scheduled from Thursday, September 10, through Saturday, September 26, excluding Sundays. The dedication will occur on Sunday, October 18, at 10 a.m., with a rebroadcast at 2 p.m., and will be transmitted to all units in the Montpelier Idaho Temple district.
Idaho hosts over 482,000 Latter-day Saints across more than 1,300 congregations. The Montpelier Idaho Temple will be the eighth temple in Idaho, joining others in Boise, Burley, Idaho Falls, Meridian, Pocatello, Rexburg, and Twin Falls. Additional temples are underway, with the Teton River Idaho Temple under construction, and the Caldwell and Coeur d’Alene Idaho Temples announced.
The Montpelier Idaho Temple’s announcement came in April 2022. Recently, President Dallin H. Oaks, in a general conference, highlighted God’s plan for His children and the role of temples in that plan, emphasizing eternal marriage in temples.
Temples differ from meetinghouses or chapels. They are houses of the Lord where teachings of Jesus Christ are reinforced through marriage, baptism, and ceremonies uniting families eternally.
