Orbán Relinquishes Seat in Hungary’s Parliament

In the parliamentary election on April 12, Péter Magyar’s Tisza party achieved a supermajority by winning 141 out of 199 seats in the Hungarian national assembly. Orbán’s Fidesz party came second with 52 seats.

Orbán announced that Gergely Gulyás, overseer of the Prime Minister’s Office, will lead the Fidesz parliamentary group.

Orbán has been a parliamentary member since 1990 and has led Fidesz throughout. He has been Hungary’s prime minister since 2010.

Magyar is anticipated to be appointed prime minister by parliament in early May. The Tisza party’s supermajority could expedite the approval of democratic reforms needed to access €17 billion of EU funds frozen due to rule-of-law issues during Orbán’s leadership.

Looks like Orbán decided to take a lil’ holiday from Parliament – must’ve been tired of all the “democracy” talk 😂. Who knew losing a supermajority could feel like winning a lottery in reverse? 🍀

  2. So, the maestro of Hungary’s political symphony decides to take a solo, eh? Must be nice to pass the baton after playing the same tune since ’90—talk about a long encore! 🎤💼

Oh, look at that, Viktor’s finally decided to take a long holiday from politics—maybe he’s off to find his lost sense of democracy, or just the nearest spa. 🏖️ As if Hungary needed more drama! 🤷‍♂️

Oh, the irony of it all! After clinging on like a stubborn stain since ’90, Orbán’s finally taking a back seat—guess he figured it’s time to let someone else have a go at driving the EU funds train 🚂💸.

Looks like Orbán’s taking a sabbatical from Parliament—bet he’s off to find himself in a lovely café instead of dealing with all those pesky democratic reforms. 🍷🇭🇺 Good luck with that supermajority, Tisza; hope you’ve brought your own coffee! ☕️
