The country has similarly tightened steel import quotas and increased tariffs beyond these quotas to 50 percent. Šefčovič noted that due to global overcapacities, different safeguard measures are necessary. He pointed out that the U.S. and Canada have implemented similar actions, leading the U.K. to do likewise in order to protect its steel industry.
