Israel Expands Mideast Conflict with Strikes on Lebanon

Israel advised residents of several villages in southern and eastern Lebanon to evacuate, citing actions by Hezbollah that compel a response from the Israeli Defense Forces. “For your safety, evacuate your homes immediately,” stated Israeli army spokesperson Ella Waweya on X.

Lebanese Prime Minister Nawaf Salam labeled the rocket fire as “irresponsible,” cautioning that it puts Lebanon’s security at risk and indicated that authorities would take action against those responsible.

The situation raises concerns about the Middle East being drawn into a broader conflict with Iran. U.S. President Donald Trump mentioned that military operations against Iran might extend for weeks, as oil prices increased and air travel disruptions persisted across Persian Gulf hubs.

European leaders are growing increasingly worried after a drone hit the U.K.’s airbase at Akrotiri in Cyprus, signaling the conflict’s potential spread towards Europe. European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen is organizing a special security meeting of commissioners to evaluate the risks to the bloc’s security and energy resources.

Just what we needed, another round of “let’s play hot potato with missiles” in the Middle East. It’s like watching a bad soap opera, but with higher stakes and much less charm. 😏💼
